About

I am a writer, art historian and curator specialising in contemporary art in relation to medicine and anatomy, and more recently the animal/human, and geo-sciences. I maintain my doctoral interest (1994) in Scottish modern and post-war art history.

I enjoy working closely with artists, and am developing a project on geology/volcanoes with Ilana Halperin, as well as being involved in the Charles Darwin 2009 celebrations (Darwin & Visual Culture conference 2-4 July 2009, Courtauld Institute). A new project for 2012-14 involves me curating/advising the Scotland and Medicine Partnership on their exhibition on sports science, medicine and contemporary arts for the Olympics and Commonwealth Games. I also am working more speculatively on an interdisciplinary project on ethics, animals and suffering (Weil, Scarry, etc) with the University of Glasgow.

I work with a number of PhD students, primarily artists undertaking creative arts research.
